review: grease x revolution (it’s the word shadow palette)

A car shaped eyeshadow palette? Now I have seen it all. Though the shape of the It’s The Word Shadow Palette from the Grease x Revolution collection is unusual…it certainly makes sense for a product based on the iconic movie musical, Grease. Curious about this themed eyeshadow palette? Here is a full review of the It’s The Word Shadow Palette and a recent look.

This is clearly a unique drugstore palette. Not only is this in the shape of a car, but it is really well themed and fairly large. The outside of the palette has the iconic Grease logo and a silhouette of a car and on the inside, “It’s The Word!” is printed. There is a gear print around the various eyeshadow shades and each of the eyeshadow names relate to the movie. Some examples? Devoted, Drive-In, Carnival Queen, Electrifyin’, and Graduation. In addition to the cute theme there is also the colour story to love. As you can see, there is a really nice assortment of colours. There are essential basics like black, brown, and white, more bold colours, like red, orange, and purple, and some metallic shimmers. This is versatile and checks off a lot of boxes.

Wondering about the quality? This is really impressive. It is cruelty free and vegan, for starters, which is always a plus. The shadows are nicely pigmented and have excellent longevity. The mattes are bold and the shimmers have an incredible finish.

To create the look above, the shade Feel Good (matte white) was applied all over the lid. Then a bit of Romantic (matte orange) was applied to the outer portion of the lid and blended inward. A bit of So Adolescent (matte berry colour) was added to the crease for a little more depth. Shape Up (shimmery pink) was added to the inner third of the lid and blended out for a little extra oomph. Then Dropout (matte brown) was used along the lower lash line to balance out all of that colour on the lids.

There is a lot to love about the It’s The Word Shadow Palette from the Revolution x Grease collection. It is clearly well themed, the colour story is excellent, and the quality is stellar. I love that I can create more neutral looks (using the matte brown, white, and black, or any of the shimmer eyeshadows) or looks that are more colourful and vibrant. The combination of finishes is also a benefit. Though the packaging is a little bulky, this is a solid release from Revolution. It is creative, fun, and versatile.
