Cinderella is one of those movies that reminds me of my youth. Though all Disney cartoons were special, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Pocahontas were some of my most watched VHS tapes. Those characters always felt extra special to me. When it comes to Cinderella, there was (and still is) a lot to love. The beautiful dress, the cute animals, and of course, the idea that miracles happen to good people. I loved it all. Fun fact: my wedding theme was actually Cinderella! Needless to say, the movie, the music, and the characters will always be important to me. I suppose it is fitting that my last Charmed Aroma review and reveal is a Cinderella themed one. The Charmed Aroma stores have all shut down where I live and I do not like the idea of shipping breakable items to my doorstep. So...this is it as far as I can tell. There is a lot to love about the holiday season. One example? Advent calendars. I love them a lot, but over the years, it has been harder to find decent ones that aren't overly expensive. (Even though I love watching people open all sorts of advent calendars on YouTube, the idea of spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on an advent calendar is ridiculous to me.) Thankfully, the Charmed Aroma 12 Days of Jewelry advent calendar was a little more reasonable, especially because the store had a sale taking place when the calendar was purchased. Sadly, there is not a lot of Charmed Aroma in my future, because the store near me finally closed. This calendar was purchased in late November and the store was closed on Boxing Day! It has been a while. There were several years back to back to back when my mom and I took a shopping trip to Erie, Pennsylvania. It was a tradition of sorts for a little while. Then the pandemic happened. Well, this year, we decided to venture back out and see how the shopping was in Erie once more. We took a bus shopping tour recently to check some items off of our holiday shopping list. It included some stops off at a mall, outlets, and lots of other stores. Happy Halloween! Today is all about candy, costumes, spooky sounds, and themed movies. There are many different ways to celebrate the holiday, so however you choose to spend this Halloween, here is hoping it is a day (and night) to remember. Truth be told, this Halloween season has been a lot of fun for me. My husband and I went to two different Pumpkin Inferno events earlier in the month and visited a Halloween drive-thru light show recently. I also decorated my apartment very thoughtfully (I wanted to make sure each and every item that was out made me happy and represented the magic of spooky season) and watched lots and lots of different movies and cartoons. This has without a doubt been my best Halloween season ever. So...I wanted to share some of the seasonal accessories that have been adding to all of the wonder over the last month or so. 

On September 1st...I was itching for fall. Though technically, the fall season doesn't start until September 23rd, in my mind, once September arrived, all bets were off. That day, I pulled out the decorations from the storage closet and planned to put out a few autumn decor pieces. Well, by the end of it, the living room was decorated for both the fall season and Halloween. Oops! To be honest, I was in my glory that day. There was a Vanilla Pumpkin candle from Leyland & Body Works lit, Phantom of the Megaplex was on in the background, and decorations were scattered everywhere. The only problem? I was missing a seasonal tablecloth. My old one had fallen apart and needed to be replaced, so I asked my husband if we could pop over to Winners and take a peek at what was there. We ended up finding a beautiful fall tablecloth (which is used as the backdrop in the photos for this particular blog post)...but I also found a few additional items. Outlet shopping is always a good idea. Especially when the deals are outstanding. As mentioned in my last blog post, I recently visited Niagara Falls to see Clay Aiken perform for a few days. On the first day there, my mom and I went to do a little outlet shopping at an outdoor mall. Though there weren't a lot of impressive stores, there were two that were out-of-this-world fantastic. One was an Urban Planet outlet store (that had clothes and accessories from a variety of similar stores, like Urban Planet, Wet Seal, Forever 21) and the other was an American Eagle outlet. The Canada One Outlet Mall had other options as well, but my purchases came from those places. Here is a closer look at all of the discounted finds that came home with me.

It is almost time. The snow outside is starting to melt and allegedly spring is already here. (Though there is a forecast for more snow in the next few days, so who knows!) When the weather is nice, my husband and I sometimes take walks when he comes home from work. This is something that started during the pandemic. There wasn't really anywhere else to go...so we would walk around the neighborhood for an hour or so. Last year, a trail opened up nearby, so we started to walk there instead. With the promise of spring on the horizon, my mind is focused on the return of our walks. Not only is this good for my physical health, but it is also nice to spend a little extra time together. Several months back now, there was a short trip taken to the Frankenmuth area. During that little getaway (which you can read about here) there was a stop off at an outlet mall. Though I was not shopping for anything in particular, a pair of Kate Spade earrings caught my eye at the outlet. There was just something about them. The sparkle! The shine! The colour! It really was love at first sight. To be fair, there were quite a few items at the Kate Spade outlet store that I fell in love with...but the earrings were within my budget. They cost about $20 CDN and offered a little taste of luxury for less. These are definitely an obsession.

Snow globes are nostalgic. Growing up, there were always lots and lots of seasonal snow globes around. My mom had a modest collection of snow globes with Christmas cottages and toy shops tucked away inside. I always loved shaking the globes and watching the snow fall over the wintery scene. Even though I am an adult now, snow globes still connect me to those childhood memories. Which is why it was so thrilling to receive a Hogwarts Snow Globe Candle from my parents this past Christmas. My love of Harry Potter is no secret, but it feels complicated these days. I want to make clear that I detest J. K. Rowling and her harmful views. (Not sure what the controversy is? Check out this article to better understand why her exclusionary language is so dangerous.) I love the world of Harry Potter, the characters, the magic, and the themes of love and connection. It is a shame that the author has tarnished something so special. Sometimes it is possible to separate the art from the artist and sometimes it is not. At this point, I have not been able to let go of my love for Harry Potter. It means too much. All good things must come to an end. Or at least that is how the saying goes. Unfortunately, the Charmed Aroma store nearest to me will be no more. I discovered this on Boxing Day as there were STORE CLOSING signs plastered all over the walls. It was my first time heading out for Boxing Day since the pandemic hit...and it was a lot of fun. (Minus the whole store closing business.) It wasn't that there were a ton of great deals at the mall or anything like that. It was just nice to spend the day shopping with my mom. On Boxing Day, I was able to pick up a few discounted holiday items at Hallmark, some seasonal CDs and DVDs at an entertainment store, and a pair of fantastic Sailor Moon sweatpants at Hot Topic. Oh, and a few items from Charmed Aroma as well. I don't know when the store closing was announced, but by Boxing Day, there was not a whole lot left. Ultimately, the Snow Day candle and the Polar Bear Leyland Bomb came home with me. There weren't any displays left out, so I had no idea what kind of jewellery would be inside, but at a 60% discount, it was worth finding out. 

I can't remember when my obsessions with nutcrackers began, but I do remember unwrapping a nutcracker one year for Christmas. It was a gift from my dad. Medium size, green, with a gold crown. The nutcracker had white tufts of hair and a painted on mustache. It was one of those love at first sight moments. I felt so special. So grown up. This wasn't an ordinary gift of toys or chocolate...it was a nutcracker. Unlike other seasonal decorations, this nutcracker was not put into a bin at the end of December. Oh no. Not my nutcracker. It stayed in my bedroom year round. Actually, it stayed in my bedroom year round until I got married and moved out. Now, it comes out each year and I always take a moment to fondly remember that magical Christmas moment. Many other nutcrackers have been added to my collection since then. Each year, my dad gifts me another special new companion...but the first nutcracker will always be my favourite. There is just something about him. 

Tis the season to embrace all things spooky. Some say Nightmare Before Christmas is a Christmas movie. Some say it is a Halloween movie. I'm on the fence. There are years where I watch it around Christmas and there are years where it feels like a Halloween must watch. It is definitely the latter this year. Leyland bombs are not exactly my favourite. The reason is pretty simple: I don't find sitting in a tub with lots of bubbles and fizz to be relaxing. It is no secret that I love a good pair of earrings. Quite frankly, there is a very good chance that I have too many pairs...but I love being able to choose the perfect set of earrings to compliment an outfit.
