Every now and then, some ColourPop makeup products seem to find their way to stores like Winners and Marshalls. I’ve tried a few items from the brand (the High School Musical collection was kindly gifted to me by one of my dear friends and some Powerpuff Girls and Lizzie McGuire items were found at Winners) but I am not overly familiar with their releases. I know some people have a ton of stuff from ColourPop, but I am mostly interested in the themed collaborations. That being said, when I saw one of their Super Shock Shadows…I decided to add it to my cart. I’ve heard a lot of rave reviews about this formula and was curious to see how the shadow really performed. So…does it work?? Here is everything you need to know.
The Super Shock Shadow shade that was available was in the shade Free Reign. It is a dark brown with golden flecks of glitter throughout. I am not the biggest fan of single eyeshadows (eyeshadow palettes are a lot more fun) but it is nice to have a single shadow that can be worn alone. This dark brown looks bold and dramatic when applied all over the lid. Additional eyeshadows don’t need to be brought in to create a complete look. This would certainly be ideal to reach for when I am in a rush or if I am traveling somewhere and don’t have a lot of space for beauty products. It is a quick and easy no brainer item.
When it comes to the formula, my expectations were high. After all, the Super Shock Shadow is something that I have heard YouTubers and bloggers rave about in the past. It is described being a longwearing creamy shadow with a “unique bouncy-like texture.” It is supposed to be ultra creamy and create no fallout. So…does it work?? Sort of. The eyeshadow is very pigmented and applies well. I love the dark brown colour and the beautiful golden glitter. This is definitely an eyeshadow that I can see wearing often. That being said, this did not have the amazing texture and creaminess that was mentioned by the brand and by other reviewers. I don’t know if this has to do with the age of the product (it was found at Winners rather than being ordered from the ColourPop website) or if my expectations were too high. Maybe I was expecting something groundbreaking rather than a nice eyeshadow. Whatever the reason, this Super Shock Shadow from ColourPop performed well, but it doesn’t seem as innovative or unique as anticipated. This will certainly be used, but I am unlikely to purchase another of these eyeshadows.
Does it work?? Yes and no. Free Reign from ColourPop is beautiful and pigmented, but the texture is not exactly what I anticipated based on other reviews. Ah well…live and learn. At least now I finally know what the Super Shock Shadow is like.
