Fresh. Natural. Barely there. Those are not the words that I would use to describe my preferred makeup look. Though the “clean girl aesthetic” is popular…I am much more into bold blush, winged liner, fun eyeshadow, and liquid lipsticks. My makeup inspiration is more Miss Piggy than whoever is popular on TikTok at the moment. That is what is so wonderful about makeup. It can be whatever you want it to be! Since I love products that are a little bolder, it only makes sense that Kim Chi Chic is always on my wish list. Created by beloved drag queen, Kim Chi, this brand is focused on beauty for all. Recently, I was able to put the Mattely Poppin Liquid Lipstick in the shade Werk to the test. Here is everything you need to know about this long lasting item.
The Mattely Poppin Liquid Lipstick from Kim Chi Chic comes in a variety of colours, but Werk was the one that I ended up with. This is a light pink and my hope was that it would be similar to an old favourite of mine, Turkish Delight from NARS. This lip product comes in fairly standard packaging, but the lid is a light pink, and the text on the tube is a nice light blue. I like that even though this is simple, there is still some fun happening with the colour choices. This also has a standard doe-foot applicator to apply the product. When it comes to the liquid lipstick in the shade Werk, there are some pros and cons. The pros? This liquid lipstick stays put and lasts really well. It is comfortable to wear and isn’t overly drying. The formula is cruelty free, vegan, paraben free, PEGs free, phthalates free, talc free, and free of synthetic fragrance. The cons? This shade is a much lighter pink than anticipated. It goes on streaky and requires multiple coats for full colour payoff. And unfortunately, the colour doesn’t look all that great on me. It is just a little too light to look flattering. Mostly, this colour makes me look washed out.
As you can see from the makeup look above, this liquid lipstick colour is not ideal for me. I have tried to make it work with a few different looks, but it always ends with me appearing to be washed out. The only thing I can think to do is mix it with a darker colour. Sigh! I really like the fact that the formula lasts well, but this colour simply does not suit me. Here is hoping that I will be able to try one of the other fabulous liquid lipstick colours from the brand in future. There are some really gorgeous shades shown on the website, like a bold purple and warm brown, that I think would look a lot better. At least now I know!
